‘CONTACT’

We were lucky enough to catch Mr. Strange live last year and it was a set we very much enjoyed. Very happy to have the new album ‘Contact’ for review so let's get to it. First things first, it's all about quality, both in the writing and the track. Production is excellent and just to put it out there vocalist Saul Strange has one of the best voices around at the moment in terms of range and delivery. Opener ‘Alien’ is a seven-minute wonder with a very atmospheric start and a somewhat retro vibe.

Second track in ‘Contact’ gave me some memories of ‘Electric Avenue’ and again the vocal is outstanding. Yes there is the use of programming throughout but it’s a question of how it’s done and Mr. Strange does it very well indeed. There is a theme running at the start of each track which sets the tone and ‘Piggy’ is a firm favourite. ‘Rumours’ is a very funky number and takes things up a notch as opposed to ‘The Pursuit Of Something Better’ which is understated chill yet upbeat and bouncy at the same time. ‘Hello! (Epilogue) hooks you in from the start and keeps you there. This album is full of catchy hooks, mind-bending beats, stunning vocal, melody to die for and also retains that wonderful quirkiness that is total Mr. Strange. This is an album for the collection and one that will propel Mr. Strange to even greater heights. Awesome.
